Weaving is the production of fabric by interlacing two sets of yarns so that they cross each other, normally at right angles, usually accomplished with a hand- or power-operated loom.
“From fibers and threads to colors and prints, weaving speaks so much about the Philippines’ cultural narrative.”
Weaving in the Philippines dates back to the 13th century. It makes use of local cotton, fibers, abaca, and pineapple as raw material. Woven cloth can be plain (in one color or a simple pattern), or can be woven in decorative or artistic design.
From fibers and threads to colors and prints, weaving speaks so much about the Philippines’ cultural narrative.
Besides preserving history, the country’s weaves are also promising products that bring attention to indigenous communities via the international design and lifestyle stage.
Textile Weaving
"Textiles contain threads, belts, nets, and a variety of other materials. Fabrics are made from textile fibers in a variety of ways, including sewing, stitching, and felting."
Textile weaving is the act of crossing one set of threads with another set of threads with the use of textiles. Textiles are made up of fibers and threads made from natural and synthetic materials. Textiles contain threads, belts, nets, and a variety of other materials. Fabrics are made from textile fibers in a variety of ways, including sewing, stitching, and felting.
Weaving materials
Plant based
Seed fur, such as cotton, foliage, such as sisal, stems, such as linen, and certain fibers from shells, such as coconut, are all sources of natural, plant-based textile fibers. Plant-based textile fabrics are becoming more common with manufacturers due to their environmental benefits.
Animal based
Textiles made from this fabric are normally made from animal fur or flesh.
Cellulosic
The cellulose present in woody plants is used to make cellulosic fibers. To make the fibers, this fiber is combined with caustic soda and carbon disulfide and spun through a spinneret.
Semi-synthetic
Chemical techniques are used to reform semi-synthetic fibers, which are made from natural materials.
Synthetic
Synthetic fabrics are those that are produced through a chemical method.
